"Rock in a Hard Place" is the fifth studio album by the American rock band Aerosmith, released on August 30, 1982. It was their first album without guitarist Joe Perry, who had left the band in 1979, and his absence marked a change in their sound. The album featured guitarist Jimmy Crespo and bassist David Hull, and while it had some of the band's classic hard rock elements, it also incorporated trends from glam rock and new wave.
Tracks like "Jailbait" and "Lightning Strikes" showcase the band's powerful riff-driven style, while songs like "Cry Me a River" lean toward a more polished, radio-friendly sound. Despite lineup changes, Rock in a Hard Place still delivered some strong songs and performances, especially from Steven Tyler and Joey Kramer.
While the album wasn’t as commercially successful as their earlier works, it still charted reasonably well and marked a transitional period for the band. Though it wasn’t as critically acclaimed as albums like Toys in the Attic or Rocks, it helped keep Aerosmith relevant until their major comeback in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
