“Alien” (1979) follows the crew of the commercial spaceship Nostromo, who are awakened from stasis to investigate a mysterious distress signal on the planetoid LV‑426. When one of the crew members is exposed to an alien lifeform inside an egg and a creature later bursts violently from his chest, the ship becomes a claustrophobic death trap as the rapidly growing Xenomorph hunts them one by one through the dark corridors. The tension mounts as warrant officer Ripley realizes the ship’s company views them as expendable in its pursuit of the creature, and she ultimately survives by initiating the Nostromo’s self‑destruct and escaping in the shuttle—only to have a final confrontation with the alien before jettisoning it into space.
