Art of Fighting is a 2D fighting game released for the Super Nintendo in 1993, originally developed by SNK for arcades. The game follows Ryo Sakazaki and Robert Garcia as they battle through South Town to rescue Ryo’s kidnapped sister, Yuri, from the criminal mastermind Mr. Big. The gameplay features a unique "spirit gauge" that limits the use of special moves, requiring strategic management during fights. Art of Fighting also introduced mechanics like character portraits that change as fighters take damage, a precursor to more detailed facial animations in later fighting games. While the SNES version suffered from downgraded graphics and removed voice samples compared to the arcade original, it retained the core gameplay and story, making it a solid, though less polished, port of SNK’s classic.
