Gumshoe is a light gun platformer released for the NES in 1986, requiring the use of the NES Zapper to control the main character, Detective Mr. Stevenson. Tasked with rescuing his kidnapped daughter, Stevenson must collect the five Black Panther diamonds while avoiding enemies, obstacles, and pitfalls. Unlike traditional platformers, the player doesn't directly control Stevenson’s movement; instead, shooting him makes him jump, while also using the Zapper to eliminate threats. This unique control scheme makes the game both challenging and unconventional. With colorful environments, fast-paced gameplay, and a distinct approach to platforming, Gumshoe stands out as one of the more creative uses of the NES Zapper.
