Sneakers (1992) is a slick techno-thriller about a group of security experts who are blackmailed by the government into stealing a mysterious black box capable of breaking any encryption. As they uncover the box’s true power, they find themselves entangled in a dangerous conspiracy involving espionage, betrayal, and old secrets. The film features an ensemble cast led by Robert Redford as team leader Martin Bishop, with Sidney Poitier, Dan Aykroyd, River Phoenix, David Strathairn, and Mary McDonnell rounding out the crew. Ben Kingsley plays Bishop’s former friend turned adversary. Directed by Phil Alden Robinson, the film blends suspense, humor, and smart dialogue.
