Space Ace is an action-platformer released for the Super Nintendo in 1994, based on the animated arcade game by Don Bluth. Players control Ace, a space hero who has been transformed into his younger, weaker self, Dexter, by the evil Commander Borf. The goal is to rescue Ace’s girlfriend, Kimberly, and stop Borf’s plan to enslave the galaxy. The game features side-scrolling platforming with laser-gun combat, enemy-filled levels, and occasional power-ups that temporarily allow Dexter to transform back into his stronger Ace form. While the game captures the animation style of the original, it was criticized for its stiff controls, frustrating difficulty, and lack of the original’s fluid cutscenes. Despite this, it remains a notable adaptation for fans of the arcade classic.
