Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) finds Admiral Kirk and his crew traveling back to 20th-century Earth to save the planet from destruction. In the 23rd century, a mysterious alien probe threatens Earth by attempting to communicate with now-extinct humpback whales. To respond, the crew hijacks a Klingon Bird-of-Prey and travels to 1986 San Francisco to locate and transport two whales into the future. Lighthearted and ecological in theme, the film mixes science fiction with fish-out-of-water comedy, and was directed by Leonard Nimoy.
