Superman (1978) tells the origin story of Kal-El, a child from the doomed planet Krypton who is sent to Earth and raised as Clark Kent in Smallville, Kansas. As he grows up, he discovers his superhuman abilities and assumes the identity of Superman to protect humanity. He moves to Metropolis, becomes a reporter at the Daily Planet, and falls for fellow journalist Lois Lane while facing off against the criminal mastermind Lex Luthor, who plots to trigger a massive earthquake for personal gain. Directed by Richard Donner, the film stars Christopher Reeve as Superman, Margot Kidder as Lois Lane, Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor, Marlon Brando as Jor-El, and Glenn Ford as Jonathan Kent.
