The Last Starfighter (1984) is a science fiction adventure about a teenager living in a trailer park who becomes an unlikely hero after beating a video game that turns out to be a recruitment tool for an intergalactic war. Whisked away to a distant planet, he must rise to the challenge and use his gaming skills to pilot a starfighter and defend the galaxy against a powerful alien threat. The film combines coming-of-age elements with space opera action and was one of the first to use extensive CGI effects.
