The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (1943) Laserdisc
The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (1943) is a screwball comedy that follows Trudy Kockenlocker, a small-town girl who wakes up after a wild night out with soldiers, only to discover she's married—but can't remember to whom—and is pregnant. With the help of the bumbling but kind-hearted Norval Jones, who has always loved her, Trudy tries to keep the situation under wraps in their conservative town. Directed and written by Preston Sturges, the film stars Betty Hutton as Trudy, Eddie Bracken as Norval, and William Demarest as Trudy’s gruff father. Bold for its time, the film cleverly satirizes small-town values, wartime patriotism, and social conventions, and is celebrated as one of Sturges’s sharpest and funniest works.
