The World's Greatest Lover (1977) is a comedy film directed by Gene Wilder, who also stars as Rudy Hickman, a neurotic baker from Milwaukee who dreams of becoming a Hollywood heartthrob. When a film studio holds a contest to find a new leading man to rival Rudolph Valentino, Rudy enters under the name Rudy Valentine. Despite his lack of acting experience and a disastrous screen test, he unexpectedly catches the eye of the studio executives. The film humorously explores Rudy's journey through the silent film era, his strained relationship with his wife Annie (Carol Kane), and his rise to fame in the competitive world of early Hollywood cinema. The cast also includes Dom DeLuise as the eccentric studio head Adolph Zitz.
