The title track, You Were Only Fooling (While I Was Falling in Love), achieved commercial success, reaching number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 8 on the Easy Listening chart. The album itself spent ten weeks on the Billboard Top LPs chart, peaking at number 86. Critics at the time praised Damone's vocal performance, with Billboard describing it as "the most commercial LP of his career." The album was later reissued on CD in 2003, paired with Damone's subsequent release, Country Love Songs.
